Textile’s work is very ancient in Bangladesh. People of this region are naturally artistic in mind & body; finger works are flexible which is helpful for craft & artworks. In early stage textiles work was fully traditional & everything were done manually in cottages where usually females did major works, especially for finer yarn spinning, art & craft works and sewing works.

Match with climate people of this region usually wear light weight clothes. In this region there is a cotton named Karpas was cultivated, it’s fibers are very thinner, finer and staple length is comparatively longer by which lightweight and ultralight weight fabrics are made.

Thousands of years ago using these ultralight fabrics were made exclusive saree and dresses for royal & landlord persons. Since 12th century our textiles was flourishing rapidly and had reached at the pick in the 15th & 16th centuries of Mughal period mainly for ultralight muslin fabrics. Mughal Samrat, Samratghnee, princes & princesses and almost all high officials were used to wearing muslin fabric’s dresses. Meeting local demand those fabrics & dresses were export to Far East, Middle East and down to Europe by Arabian businessmen.

Over the centuries technology has changed, cottage industries became large textile mills and big garment factories. Since 1980s’ Bangladesh apparel industry again has started exporting readymade garments to Europe and America, and after 40 years its position is next to China. Now it is established that Bangladesh is a reliable sourcing place for readymade garments.
